2012 Games and human trafficking research March 2011
London Councils commissioned GLE to review the potential impact of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games on trafficking, in the context of a possible increase of people entering the UK due to human trafficking.
While international and national laws are in place to combat trafficking, London boroughs and other organisations offer services that aim to mitigate the impact.
Local organisations highlight good practice and the value of multi-agency working, close cooperation between agencies and maximising existing resources.
The impact of budget restrictions on borough economic development activity January 2011
Before the 2010 election, local authorities around the country were facing up to the possibility of significant cuts across most areas of public funding. These cuts have largely materialised, being confirmed within the emergency budget, the spending review and the local government finance settlement. London Councils and GLE conducted research into how boroughs are planning to react.

This report explores cross-departmental working between London borough regeneration teams, and other services such as health, housing and children’s services, to boost skills and employment opportunities in local areas.
Promoting positive progression routes December 2007
This report explores the role and impact of the European Social Fund (ESF) on worklessness in London - reviewing the success of the 2000-06 ESF programme and making a number of key recommendations for the 2007-13 programming period. In particular the report questions how beneficiaries should be tracked having left ESF provision, what makes employment support projects successful, and how referrals and signposting can be improved.
Fast Forward Grants 2006-07 evaluation
This report reviews the fifth Fast Forward Grants programme and looks at the soft and hard outputs resulting from the 66 funded projects during the year. Fast Forward Grants targets those beneficiaries that mainstream training providers have traditionally not reached. The 2006-07 programme provided 1,030 people with some form of training, giving them new skills and helping them to progress towards training and employment.
The future of community regeneration February 2007
Community regeneration funding (CRF) provides money for employment, training and enterprise programmes which target groups of people or areas where deprivation is most prevalent. CRF streams are likely to reduce significantly over the next few years, and so this research investigates how they could be made more effective and more efficient in the future.

Building sustainable communities December 2005
This study focuses on a transnational analysis of the impact of population mobility and diversitification on service provision by local authorities in large urban areas. The aim of the research is to improve understanding of the patterns of mobility in three large EU cities and analyse the implications of residential turnover for the effectiveness and responsiveness of services provided at local level.

Identifying business needs in the Clapham Park NDC area August 2005

Skills in the City July 2005
This study defines the range of junior or entry level jobs available in the City of London’s financial and related business services sector. The aims were to investigate the skills, attributes and qualifications needed to carry out these jobs; review the relevance of existing qualifications to the sector; produce a broad profile of workers currently doing these jobs; and review methods of recruitment used. In addition, the research aimed to review best practice among employers in terms of developing and training people in these jobs.

EU capital cities study 2004 September 2004
This study follows on from the 2003 Study, which provided an overview of the capitals of the EU15. Following the recent enlargement, bringing the EU to 25 members, this study focuses on the ten new capital cities. The report aims to provide a general overview of these capital cities and to promote the understanding of structures and competences at the various sub-national levels, which is essential to productive partnership working.

Regenerating London: Faith communities and social action October 2002
Faith organisations run an estimated 7,000 projects in London affecting 390,000 Londoners every year. These projects cover activities including shelter & food for the homeless, support networks for the elderly, education & training, and the arts. This report highlights, for the first time, the substantial contribution made by faith communities to regeneration in London.
