Corporate structure
GLE Group is an economic development company, wholly owned by all 33 London boroughs, but operating commercially and receiving no public subsidy.
Commercially and constitutionally independent, the Group operates outside the framework of public spending controls which apply to local authorities and invests its profits, commercial skills and know-how to help make economic regeneration happen.
Its continued success depends on the ability of management to ensure that the commercial aspects of the organisation remain in good shape and to keep the work of the Company relevant to the public policy agenda is perceived by its members and the other stakeholder organisations with which it works.
It is therefore imperative for GLE to be able to change and to refocus with the times. The fact that it is still thriving and developing after twenty years of existence, during which time other, much larger economic development organisations have come and gone, is testament to its ability to adapt.
